Amoxicillin
Amoxicillin (INN), formerly amoxycillin (BAN), abbreviated Amox,Tormoxin (in India), is a moderate-spectrum, bacteriolytic, β-lactam antibiotic used to treat infections caused by bacteria, such as ear infections, bladder infections etc.
Learn about the prescription medication Amoxil (Amoxicillin), drug uses, dosage, side effects, drug interactions, warnings, and patient labeling.
Skin rash in infants and young children being treated with amoxicillin alone or in combination with clavulanic acid is rarely due to an allergy to the antibiotic therapy, researchers said here at the 29th Congress of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI).
"In most cases, children who consult because they have had a rash aren't allergic," said Maria Ascension Aranzábal Soto, MD, Hospital de Zumárraga, Zumárraga, Spain, on June 8.
Dr. Soto presented the findings of a study of 56 children who developed skin rashes during antibiotic treatment with amoxicillin or amoxicillin-clavulanic acid and were referred for full allergologic work-up during 2008.
Thirty boys and 26 girls aged 6 years or younger were evaluated. Of these, 32 were taking amoxicillin alone and 24 were taking amoxicillin-clavulanic acid. All but 1 of the children had experienced skin rashes more than 1 hour after the first dose of antibiotic had been given.
The 1 child that had experience an immediate rash -- defined as a rash occurring within 1 hour of the first antibiotic dose -- had been given amoxicillin alone.
"54 challenge tests were performed and 52 children had negative results," Dr. Aranzábal Soto reported.
This meant that 93% of the 56 children studied were not allergic to either amoxicillin or to amoxicillin-clavulanic acid.
The findings are important, Dr. Aranzábal Soto said, as amoxicillin is an inexpensive, nontoxic, and commonly used antibiotic, and means that children can continue to be treated after confirming that they are not allergic.
Other data, however, show that a significant number of young children are allergic to clavulanic acid but not to amoxicillin.
"There are many patients who take amoxicillin with clavulanic acid and in the allergic evaluation only sensitivity to amoxicillin is tested," said Cristobalina Mayorga, MD, Carlos Haya Hospital, Malaga, Spain, on June 8 while presenting findings from a similar study.
"So there are many patients who are classified as nonallergic because they are negative to amoxicillin but they are may be positive to clavulanic acid," Dr. Mayorga said.
Their study included 55 children who had experienced an immediate allergic reaction to amoxicillin-clavulanic acid and had positive skin prick tests to betalactam derivatives. A control group of 30 children with good tolerance to the antibiotic combination and negative skin prick tests for benzylpenicillin, benzylpenicilloyl-polylysine, amoxicillin, and clavulanic acid were also studied.
Nine percent of patients had positive skin prick tests to major and/or minor determinants of benzylpenicillin whether they were positive or not to amoxicillin, Dr. Mayorga reported.
Amoxicillin alone caused a reaction in 62% of children, but 29% of children had a positive skin test to clavulanic acid in the absence of other positive findings.
"This indicates the need to test with clavulanic acid alone when evaluating subjects with immediate hypersensitivity reactions to the amoxicillin-clavulanic acid combination," Dr. Mayorga concluded.

Albie Manzo Law School
Caroline's family is definitely maturing. All the kids are doing something with their lives or at least trying to do something. Caroline's daughter is at cosmetology school (I think she graduated on this episode, they had a celebratory dinner for some reason) studying make up and shows interest in Avant garde make up application. Also Christopher is working at the family business, the Brownstone, and Albie is in law school.
The most recent issue with Albie, Caroline's eldest son who is 23 years old. He has a learning disability--not really specified, but it takes him longer to read and grasp certain ideas. His first semester at law school was difficult and he found himself to be in trouble academically. His GPA is currently not where the school or he would like it to be and his continuance with this particular law school is contingent on the results of his appeal. It's really hard to watch someone who is like the apple of the family's eye, try so hard at doing something they want to do, and for them to not be able to do it because of a learning disability. I completely agree with Caroline when she said: "Don't let anyone tell you what you can and can't do." The conversation and exchange between Caroline and her son was so sincere and heartfelt. It really demonstrates a mother's love and how much it pains a mother to see any of her children be hurt or not be able to do want they want in their lives. It reminded me of many chats I had with my own mother.

Pecos River Ranch
Kilmer apparently has also make some unwelcome comments about Vietnam Veterans in the past as well. The residents in the area did not think that was cool at all and are making noise in regards to Kilmer’s attempt to create bed and breakfast business. The neighbors are demanding an apology from Kilmer. They said his awesome role as “Doc Holiday” in the movie “Tombstone” is not enough to let him off the hook, and he is no longer their “Huckleberry”. Ok, that last sentence was a joke, but seriously Kilmer needs to win the hearts and minds of the residents or else it might hurt his business.
The actor says that he was misquoted and even has the ACLU behind him in this matter. Kilmer is expected to attend a meeting on Wednesday to have the permit for the Pecos Ranch request considered

Who Has A Girlfriend On The Bachelorette
This is the girl who is set to cause chaos on The Bachelorette – by revealing herself as Justin Rego’s girlfriend.
Jessica Spillas makes a phone call to Ali Fedotowsky and tells the former Facebook employee she has been dating Justin for more than a year and a half.
Her revelation comes moments after Ali, 25, hands the wrestler a rose and eliminates advertising account executive Kasey Kahl from the show.
The furious Bachelorette immediately calls Justin in for a showdown and sends him packing as well.
Although network ABC have remained tight-lipped about events on The Bachelorette, several blogs have published spoilers unveiling the Justin Rego scandal.
Jessica, a 20-year-old sales rep for Premier Fitness Clubs, reveals how she agreed to let Justin, 26, take part in the Bachelorette to further his career.
But shortly after the ‘Rated R’ wrestler jetted off to tape the show, Jessica discovered he had been dating ANOTHER girl behind her back in their hometown of Toronto, Canada.
Keen to make Justin pay for his betrayal, the pretty brunette rings Ali and confesses everything.
The showdown is understood to be screening in week six of the show, which will air on June 28.
Jessica did not appear to have let Justin’s betrayal get her down as she went on a shopping trip in Toronto.
Wearing cropped pants, a Basque and leather jacket, she spent the afternoon picking out some new clothes from Guess.
“Jessica seemed to be going about her business as usual,” one onlooker said.
“With her bright pink nail polish and yellow purse she looked very glamorous. Justin was a fool to let her go.
“She looked round the shops and chatted to people on her cell phone. She seemed in very good spirits. Obviously a bit of retail therapy did her the world of good.”
Last month 25-year-old Kimberly Kerekes came forward and revealed herself to be Justin’s other secret girlfriend.
The blonde marketing executive told Radar Online she thought she was the wrestler’s only girlfriend – and was shocked when Jessica told her she was Justin’s girlfriend of a year and a half.

Princess Victoria Of Sweden
The couple met in 2002. Westling is a gym owner who now goes by the title of Prince Daniel, Duke of Vastergotland. Victoria was given away by her father and mother, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, who were married exactly 34 years ago to the day, making this Sweden's first royal wedding since 1976.
Sweden's monarchy has no political power, but the king or queen represents the nation and greets foreign dignitaries. Victoria is next in line to succeed her father, so eventually she and Prince Daniel will be Queen and King of Sweden.
It's certainly funny but we gotta say -- marrying your personal trainer beats the hell out of the old days when people married their cousins.

Stevens Johnson Syndrome
Manute Bol died of Stevens-Johnson syndrome. (worldinterestingfacts.com) The disorder claimed the life of Manute Bol today, a 47-year-old former NBA star. Bol rose to fame in the '80s as a basketball star with the Washington Bullets. He was one of the two tallest players in NBA history and known for his kindness and unique background.
Bol was born in Sudan and didn't touch a basketball until he was in his teens. Instead, he was a cattle herder with the Dinka tribe. He was discovered by a basketball coach working in the African country, and eventually Bol made his way to the US without speaking a word of English.

Gail Posner
What a bizarre story where dogs inherit mansion and a $3 million trust fund. Heiress Gail Posner left her mansion and a considerable part of her legacy to her dogs.
One of Posner’s dogs is named Conchita. Oddly, Posner’s dogs got more than her only living son, Carl Carr. He is disputing the will however. He claims that his mother was drugged by her aides in an effort to gain control of her fortune.
She did appear to have a bizarre relationship with her dog Conchita, who is ‘one of the world’s most spoiled dogs.’ Reports are that Conchita had her own staff, wardrobe and diamond jewelry. Conchita also had her own car, which was a gold Escalade. Of course, she and her sisters had weekly puppy spa appointments. Yes, that sound pretty crazy to me.
To keep the crazy going, Posner was close to launching a match-your-pet clothing line that would allow pets and owners to buy matching outfits.
She changed her will in 2008. However, her son still got $1 million, which is nothing to sneeze at.
What do you think? Should her son, Carl Carr contest the will? Should he win? Do dogs really need an $8.3 million mansion or a $3 million trust fund? Actually, does anybody need that? There are so many better things that money could be doing.

USA Slovenia World Cup
The result of the game came as a surprise for many England supporters who’d seen Algeria as an easy opponent. In Group C Algeria are ranked fourth with one point, while England and the USA have two points and Slovenia is number one with four points.
The United States football, or soccer, team is now facing a similar destiny after their disappointing 2-2 draw to Slovenia.
For USA fans, victory has seemed a certainty, but American fans outside Ellis Park in Johannesburg seemed disappointed and angry after Friday’s result.
On Wednesday next week the USA will confront their last chance to stay in the game, if they do not beat Algeria their World Cup chances will be in severe jeopardy.

Chicago Weather
High winds, blew through the western suburbs at a speed of about 55 miles per hour.
People moving about the area are advised to be careful as several live electrical wires have been downed.
Numerous reports of winds above 60 miles per hour have been received by the National Weather Service, as well as downed trees and power lines. Hail and winds above 80 miles were also reported in some areas. In one West Side neighborhood near Harrison and Francisco, trees uprooted by the wind littered streets. Cars were also blown over.
"It was like a hurricane, and just came through like all of a sudden," resident George Jefferson said.
"It was everywhere. Blowing everywhere. Wind, the trees. I looked out the window, about everything in my house blew off the shelf," Dianna Courtes told ABC7 Chicago.
From that neighborhood to another one, the scene at the Randolph Street Market Fest in the West Loop also showed storm damage. When the storms rolled in, people at that festival ran for cover as quickly as possible. Signs were scene blowing through street.
Up north at Wrigley Field, more trouble. Te cubs lost to the L.A. Angels, but if that wasn't bad enough, storms blasted the field. ABC7 saw damage in that area, as well.
Some storm-related injuries have been reported, but details were not known as of 6 p.m. Friday.
Commonwealth Edison reports 284,000 customers without power in northern Illinois, including 73,000 in Chicago, 97,000 in the northern suburbs, about 61,000 in the southern suburbs, and 52,000 in the western suburbs.
Earlier in the day, temperatures had been near 90 degrees, with the heat index approaching 100. The temperature dropped almost 20 degrees during the storms.
More storms could be moving into the Chicago area after midnight Friday night.

Koman Coulibaly
We all saw the fallout of Jim Joyce's blown call that cost Armando Gallaraga a perfect game, and the reaction from fans was positive. Nobody's perfect, and we understand that more than anyone as Americans I think. By not commenting, Coulibaly is only making things worse on himself. If he would come out and either explain the call (which never should have happened) and/or simply apologize, I think a lot of people would just move on.

Family Watch Dog
Amber Alerts and Missing Children Cases
One feature on the Family Watchdog site is the list of offender counts. It will tell you how many registered sex offenders are in each state. Florida has one of the highest rates of sex offenders, with California leading the list. It is not surprising as many of the most horrific crimes against children, involving sex offenders, have occurred in these two states. But that doesn’t mean that all states are free and clear. It only takes one sex offender to jeopardize the safety and well-being of our nation’s children.
Registering for free is easy and you can receive instant notification should a sex offender move into your area.

Queen Noor
Queen Noor spoke at length about the nuclear threat throughout the world and made several strong points about the importance of the movement. Later in the interview, Maher shifted gears and turned the conversation in on the Queen, with questions about Jordan’s handling of the West Bank as well as questions about the necessity of a Monarchy in the first place. While Queen Noor seemed to respond very well to the questions, it was definitely a most unexpected turn for the talk show host to turn on his guest in the middle of an interview with a humanitarian focus.

Abby Sunderland
Lock up your teenagers. With stars in their eyes and wind in their sails, a teenager will attempt almost anything, however harmful to themselves and others. It's our role as parents to stop them doing so. To tell them it's a mad idea to attempt to scale Everest, fly across America in a tiny plane, or sail solo around the world in a 40ft yacht when you've not yet reached adulthood.
That's what 16-year-old Abby Sunderland has just tried to do. Of course, we're all delighted she's been rescued – none more so than her parents. But she shouldn't have been out there on her own in the first place, battling the storm.
There was no purpose to her voyage.Abby gave the same cliched reason for doing something so daft that we've all heard uttered tearfully a thousand times by teenage TV contestants: "I want to live my dream." But first, she needs to get a life. Abby risked hers to become a star on the ocean waves. Perhaps the quayside can be lined with Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell for her return.
This pursuit of under-age stardom warps all sense of proportion about good parenting and child safety. We parents are told we shouldn't let our kids walk to school alone until they're at least 12, in case they have a road accident or are abducted. We're instructed to monitor strictly their access to the internet, making sure they don't spend too much time alone in front of a computer screen in case they're groomed by a paedophile. Yet, it's hailed as heroic when a teenager launches solo on the high seas to tackle 60-knot winds and 50-foot waves.
The publicity pictures of the wholesome Californian on board Wild Eyes convey none of the danger. Instead, they look as if they've been torn from the pages of an LL Bean catalogue, with Abby in pale blue, co-ordinated sailing attire, her long fair hair blowing, sun-lit, in the salt air.
But it is dangerous. And foolhardy. And downright irresponsible to let a 16 year old loose in a 40ft yacht. A parent's job is to clip their teenager's wings and trim their sails. Abby's ambitious, pushy parents obviously felt no need to do so. When her older brother Zac left high school last year, aged 17, he sailed around the world alone. For both siblings, Laurence and Marianne Sunderland operated a system of extreme "mobile parenting", whereby parents control their kids by calling and texting almost every hour. Except that their phones were satellite-linked and, as they admitted when they tried to help Abby "troubleshoot her engine" by remote, the reception 2,000 miles east of Madagascar could be "patchy".
It's also dangerous for other people involved, whose only dream may be to return safely to their own family that night. A massive international rescue operation had to be mounted when Abby's adolescent dream hit the rocks, including diverting three ships and a Qantas passenger jet. A French fishing vessel has now altered its route and is on its way to pick up the Sunderlands' distressed daughter.
I've had some mad adventures in my travel-writing life, and crossed a few wild oceans. But I've done so as an adult, aware of the cost to me and to others. If Abby Sunderland wants to pursue her dream, let her. But let her grow up first. If it wasn't for the French fishing vessel, she might not have had the chance to

Doctors Seek Probe of Alleged Torture Experiments
Physicians for Human Rights filed a legal complaint Wednesday with the Health and Human Services Department . The group was joined by other nongovernment organizations, including Amnesty International USA.
Using long-declassified documents, the physicians' group released a report Sunday claiming doctors monitored terror suspects during waterboarding, an interrogation technique that simulates drowning, and forced sleep deprivation, in what they contended amounted to illegal experimentation.
The author of the report, Nathaniel Raymond, said the declassified documents had never been examined with an eye on laws, including the Nuremberg Code, which was used to ban Nazi Germany's medical experimentation
According to the physicians' report, "Medical personnel were required to monitor all waterboarding practices and collect detailed medical information that was used to design, develop and deploy subsequent waterboarding procedures."
The group also said information was gathered on the pain inflicted when various interrogation techniques were used in combination. Raymond claims the purpose was to see if the pain caused violated Bush administration definitions of torture, rather than to safeguard detainees' health.
The report said that medical personnel also monitored sleep deprivation, with sleepless stints from 48 hours to 180 hours — again to make sure it did not cause prolonged physical and mental suffering under the definitions used by the Bush administration.
The CIA said there was no medical experimentation and pointed out that the interrogation program had been investigated already several times.

UN Security Council Passes New Nuclear Sanctions Against Iran
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (C) visits the Natanz uranium enrichment facilities April 8, 2008 200 miles (322 km) south of the Tehran, Iran. The UN Security Council will vote on new sanctions for Iran.
Resolution 1929 passed 12-2 with Brazil and Turkey voting against the measure. In a surprise move, Lebanon , whose government includes members of the Iranian-backed group Hezbollah, abstained from the vote, which was delayed to allow those three countries to consult with their governments after last-minute diplomatic efforts by the United States and others. Earlier this morning Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke with Lebanese President Michel Suleiman, according to a U.S. official.
"Today the Security Council has responded decisively to the grave threat to international peace and security posed by Iran's failure to live up to its obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty," the U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice said after the vote.
"These are the most comprehensive sanctions that the Iranian government has faced," President Obama said later from Washington.
"These sanctions show the united view of the international community that a nuclear arms race in the Middle East is in nobody's interest. And that nations must be held accountable for challenging the global nonproliferation regime," he added.

Alvin Greene
Since, his surprising victory over establishment Democratic candidate Vic Rawl, attributed to alphabet voting by constituents unfamiliar with either candidate, the AP reported that Greene was arrested in November for displaying porn over the Internet. “Court records show 32-year-old Alvin Greene was arrested in November and charged with showing obscene Internet photos to a University of South Carolina student.”
As reported by The Hill, Carol Fowler, chairwoman of the South Carolina Democratic Party asked Greene to step down:
“Today I spoke with Alvin Greene, the presumptive Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate, and asked him to withdraw from the race,” Carol Fowler, chairwoman of the South Carolina Democratic Party, said in a statement. [...]
Fowler said she didn’t take her decision “lightly.” “I believe strongly that the Democratic voters of this state have the right to select our nominee,” she said. “But this new information about Mr. Greene has would certainly have affected the decisions of many of those voters.”
And so, this may be the end of Greene’s odd campaign, that has been questioned as a GOP generated place-marker stunt.

Prelude To The Dream
Joe Namath of the New York Jets guaranteeing victory over the Baltimore Colts prior to Super Bowl III in 1969 -- and then backing it up with a 16-7 win in the Orange Bowl in Miami helped make the Super Bowl one of the biggest sporting events in the world.
Michigan State University and Indiana State University squaring off in the 1979 NCAA Men's Basketball championship at the Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City helped make March one of the best times of the year for sports fans. Earvin "Magic" Johnson (Michigan State) and Larry Bird (Indiana State) helped NBC draw a staggering 24.1 Nielsen rating -- the highest ever for a college basketball game -- and the tournament was never the same again.
For the Gillette Fusion ProGlide Prelude to the Dream at the legendary Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, the defining moment came during the third running of the event on June 6, 2007.
On a beautiful Midwestern summer night, the tiny town of Rossburg, Ohio, became the center of the racing universe thanks to a unique television partnership with HBO Pay-Per-View®. For the first time, the Prelude to the Dream event was going to be telecast live from coast-to-coast to a pay-per-view audience, with the majority of the proceeds raised from the telecast going to support the Victory Junction Gang Camp in Randleman, N.C.
NASCAR on FOX broadcasters and production folks donated their time to produce the telecast and helped turn a small charity dirt race into a big-time event.
"Getting the HBO Pay-Per-View telecast up and going and having the NASCAR on FOX crew donate their time really helped take the Prelude to a whole different level," said two-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion and Eldora Speedway owner Tony Stewart. "It was such a unique concept and everyone, like they are today, was just happy to be there and were thrilled to donate their time. What amazed me was that you've got Artie Kempner (director) and Pam Miller (producer) and a lot of other folks on the television side that had worked the Daytona 500, the Super Bowl, the World Series and the Stanley Cup Finals and they're producing a charity dirt race in Rossburg, Ohio, without asking for a dime. They just did it because they wanted to be there and make the event something big."
And the storylines coming out of Eldora that evening gave race fans a reason to tune in. Perhaps most intriguing was 1999 CART Series champion, 2000 Indianapolis 500 winner and seven-time Formula One race winner Juan Pablo Montoya making his dirt debut. It was joked about before the event that Montoya could be the first driver in motorsports history to win the Indianapolis 500, the Grand Prix of Monaco and the Prelude to the Dream at Eldora.
But there was no joking when Montoya showed up, took to the dirt right away and proved he could run with the drivers who grew up racing on dirt. While he finished 15th in the 24-car field, he showed everyone, including the track owner, that he was a force to be reckoned with on a surface very unfamiliar to him.
"There was such an electricity about Juan showing up at the Prelude," Stewart said. "Here's this guy who had won the Indianapolis 500 and won at Monaco, but wasn't afraid to give a dirt Late Model a shot and he proved that night why he's one of the best drivers in the world. He took a few laps, asked a few questions and went out and found the fast way around pretty quick."
Montoya wasn't the only driver to bring buzz to west-central Ohio that night, however.
Four-time Sprint Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon returned to Eldora for the first time in 16 years and picked up right where he left off as an up and coming United States Auto Club (USAC) driver in 1991, the last time he had competed at Eldora.
"I had a blast," Gordon said. "Just getting back on the dirt, going back to Eldora again, never having been in a dirt Late Model -- to me, it was a highlight of 2007. It just brought back a lot of excitement and great memories. When I was getting into (USAC) Sprint Car racing and went to Eldora, that place felt like Daytona. It was just this huge place with cars flying by. Now, after racing in the (NASCAR Sprint) Cup Series doing 200 mph around some of these mile-and-halves, it felt like getting back to a short track.
"What I loved is, my guys on my DuPont team came there for the first time and had never seen me race on dirt, and to see them fired up and going, 'This place is so cool,' was pretty neat for me. I think I kind of surprised them a little bit and to see that reaction was pretty priceless for me."
Gordon didn't disappoint his team or the fans of Eldora as he waged a fierce battle with eventual winner Carl Edwards and runner-up Kyle Busch. Edwards led 28 of the 30 laps in the feature, but Busch and Gordon were side-by-side with him throughout the entire race. Edwards edged Busch by just .305 of a second when the checkered flag flew with Gordon just a car length behind them.
"To be able to go out and race on dirt is just fun," Edwards said. "To be able to run at Eldora is unbelievable. So, to win at Eldora, you know, beating Jeff Gordon, Kyle Busch and Tony Stewart -- guys like that who are at the top of the sport worldwide, and to do it at an event like that and to raise money for charity, I mean that was cool. I still get people that come up to me and say, 'Man, that was an unbelievable race.' Just as much as they talk about any other race I've won that they've seen, they talk about that one."
The 2010 Gillette Fusion ProGlide Prelude to the Dream will be presented live on Wednesday June 9 to the entire nation on HBO Pay-Per-View with net proceeds from the telecast supporting four of the nation's top children's hospitals:
* Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis: www.RileyChildrensHospital.com
* Cincinnati Children's: www.CincinnatiChildrens.org
* Levine Children's Hospital in Charlotte, N.C.: www.LevineChildrensHospital.org
* St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.: www.StJude.org
The event is headlined by the Gillette Young Guns: Clint Bowyer, Kasey Kahne, Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Edwards and Joey Logano. All will join Stewart and many others, including fellow Sprint Cup champions Jimmie Johnson, Gordon, Matt Kenseth, Bobby Labonte and Bill Elliott. Action sports legends Travis Pastrana and Ricky Carmichael will also participate along with 2004 IZOD IndyCar Series champion Tony Kanaan. All will pilot 2,300-pound dirt Late Model stock cars capable of putting out more than 800 horsepower.
Beyond the charity element, this year's Gillette Fusion ProGlide Prelude to the Dream is a team event. There will still be an individual race winner, but there will now be a race within the race, with the field broken up into four teams, each representing a children's hospital:
* Team Riley: Bowyer (captain), Ryan Newman, Gordon, A.J. Allmendinger, Justin Allgaier, Kenny Wallace and Ron Capps.
* Team Cincinnati: Kahne (captain), Logano, Stewart, Labonte, Elliott and Cruz Pedregon.
* Team Levine: Busch (captain), Johnson, Kenseth, David Reutimann, Dave Blaney, Marcos Ambrose and Pastrana.
* Team St. Jude: Hamlin (captain), Edwards, Schrader, Aric Almirola, Carmichael, Kanaan and Ray Evernham.
Each hospital will receive a donation, with the payout breakdown as follows:
* Winning team receives 45 percent of net money raised.
* Second-place team receives 25 percent of net money raised.
* Third- and fourth-place teams each receive 15 percent of net money raised.
The lowest team score wins, and only the top-five drivers from each team will be scored. For example, if Team Riley has finishes of first, fourth, seventh, 11th and 18th, respectively, from its top-five drivers, its score will be 41. In the event of a tie, the sixth driver will be scored.
Drivers from all types of disciplines, some with lots of dirt track experience and others with hardly any, will participate in hot laps, qualifying, heat races and a 30-lap feature, all of which will be televised live on HBO Pay-Per-View.
With no points and no pressure, the Gillette Fusion ProGlide Prelude to the Dream is a throwback race, allowing drivers to step back in time and compete for the reasons they all went racing in the first place -- pride and a trophy. And they'll do it on the same surface that racing legends and past Indianapolis 500 regulars Foyt and Mario Andretti competed on throughout the last 56 years.
The live, commercial-free broadcast will begin at 7 p.m. EDT (4 p.m. PDT) with an immediate replay. HBO Pay-Per-View's racing telecast has a suggested retail price of $24.95 and is available to more than 71 million pay-per-view homes. HBO Pay-Per-View is the leading supplier of event programming in the pay-per-view industry. Ordering information and up-to-the minute racing information is available at either www.PreludeToTheDream.org or www.HBO.com.
For those who want to see the Gillette Fusion ProGlide Prelude to the Dream in person, tickets are available by calling the track office (937) 338-3815. Act fast -- the race has sold out in each of its five previous years.

Nebraska Big 10
The Omaha World-Herald reported Wednesday its source said Nebraska's move from the Big 12 will come quickly.
Many college football observers believe that should Nebraska join the Big 10, the future of the Big 12 would be imperiled. It has existed as an alliance between the powerhouse Cornhuskers program, the University of Texas and other colleges from the state.
But some contend Nebraska has chafed under the dominance of the conference's South Division schools.
The World-Herald said its sources indicate the Big Ten is set to add up to five schools, including Nebraska. Other frequently mentioned candidates include Notre Dame and Missouri.
The Pacific 10 is also reportedly wants to add all six schools from the Big 12 South Division.
The newspaper said Big 12 officials were preparing for a meeting Friday in which changes would be announced.
Nebraska Athletic Director Tom Osborne wouldn't comment on the report but denied any problems with UT, saying, "This is not a case of reacting to any one school, particularly Texas."

Brooke Hundley
The lawsuit by 23-year-old Brooke Hundley, filed Tuesday in Stamford Superior Court, says ESPN defamed her by firing her based on false statements by Phillips and by claiming she had not fully cooperated with its investigation.
Hundley, who was hired by ESPN in 2008 and paid $10.96 per hour, said Phillips made false statements to police in Connecticut portraying her as a danger to his family and himself as an innocent victim. She said Phillips falsely claimed he had been trying to end their relationship.
Hundley says she fully cooperated with ESPN's investigation. She has said she confronted Phillips' wife only so he would stop pursuing her.
She accused ESPN of acting maliciously to insulate itself from liability for Phillips' conduct.
Hundley, who is seeking more than $15,000 in damages, said she lost her job, subsequent job opportunities, damage to her reputation and has been harassed by the public as a result of the publicity.
Hundley in April filed a complaint with the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities claiming she was fired for reporting Phillips sexually harassed her.
ESPN said Hundley's claims are without merit. The Connecticut-based network said its investigation found Hundley's characterization of the events inconsistent.
"Hundley's claims are without merit and we will vigorously defend against them," ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz said. "Her current charges do not accurately portray ESPN's handling of the matter."
Phillips acknowledged his relationship with Hundley.
His representative, Steve Lefkowitz, said Phillips was focused on getting his life and career back on track. Lefkowitz said he's known Phillips for more than a decade and said he would not lie to authorities.
Phillips and Hundley were fired in October.

Jeremiah Masoli
Coach Chip Kelly kicked Masoli off the team on Wednesday. That conversation, in case you wondered, was brief and to the point. Said Kelly: "It wasn't a heartfelt discussion. There wasn't any room for conversation. We had a plan in place for Jeremiah, and he failed."
So let the head shaking begin. A guy who had all the promise in the universe a year ago officially went Cheech and Chong on his program. Masoli could read a defense, he could run the spread-option offense beautifully, but what he couldn't do was follow simple instructions from a coach who believed in him and gave him a far wider berth than most of the rest of us would have.
The absurdity and hubris laced in the story of Masoli's downfall ends up belonging in a Shakespeare festival play. The Big Bard long ago gave us Hamlet, King Lear and Macbeth. "All the world's a seven-man defensive front." All that stuff. And Shakespeare would have had a career day with Masoli's last stand.
The quarterback's demise is a painful exercise in vanity. Masoli is an idiot for failing to grasp the gravity of his final days as a college football player.
In the weeks after Masoli's burglary arrest I heard from a number of Oregon students who told stories of the community college transfer quarterback who showed up on campus appreciating his opportunity, and promptly won some games and transformed into a pompous player who introduced himself in social situations with, "You know, I'm the QB."
He's the "ex" now. Ex-quarterback. Ex-Heisman wisher. Ex-leader. Ex-problem child.
Yet, try as I might today to erase those riveting football images of Masoli running over a defensive back for a first down. Or him finding an open receiver. Or him scrambling in space, with the eye-black smeared down his cheeks, I just can't.
Masoli could really play, couldn't he?
And therein lies the deep lesson wrapped in the riddle that is Masoli's amateur career. The temptation is to look at the bookings and citations and too frequent run-ins with police, and the last chance he was given, and see a guy who lowered his head and bulled over his own coach.
But Masoli's true betrayal wasn't of his coach. He betrayed his own talents.
Masoli didn't respect his athleticism. He didn't just blow his final chance, he trashed it, humiliated it, and that's all a lot of people are going to remember of Masoli.
Kelly told me he was "surprised" by Masoli's failure to follow the rules. Said Kelly: "I'm surprised by anyone who wouldn't be able to follow simple parameters that were set up for you to make it back on the football field. It was black-and-white stuff. Not complicated at all."
Masoli didn't buy in. Kelly learns, maybe. And the rest of us move on.
Kelly can only hope that removing Masoli completely from the program is a step toward repairing its image. Most of us already wondered what the point of keeping a lousy influence around might be.
But the bigger question is what happens to Masoli now that he has trampled his last chance.
Football players have to follow the rules of society. They have to follow the rules of their game, and their program. But Masoli did one better. He didn't even serve as a good steward of his own dreams. Masoli lowered his head and drove them into the dirt himself.
Nothing more shameful than that.
Jeremiah Masoli

Orly Taitz
The Democrats, meanwhile, had a bunch of putzes on the ballot, including an old geezer who was the state’s governor about a zillion election cycles ago who they picked for governor again because his competition was more putzes.
While on a roll, voters from both parties passed two propositions in which one would save them money and the other a tiny step to improve their dysfunctional government while, gasp, rejecting three other propositions that would have made public utilities and auto insurers richer and provide a test trial of public financing for a statewide elective office no one gives a damn.
Let’s hear it for the Golden State, broke but not beaten. At least as of this morning.
Just think. Meg Whitman spent $81 million of her family fortune to win just the primary. Her opponent, Silicon Valley tycoon and incumbent state Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner blew $26 million of his wad to lose by more than 15 points the last I looked. If you took all the money spent by all candidates in the primary and wrote a check to the state, the $19 billion deficit would be reduced by 0.02%.

Dana Perino
At last week's White House ceremony, the former Beatle remarked, "It's a fantastic honor [for] the Gershwin family to give me this incredible award and for me to be awarded it by the Library of Congress. And in fact, after the last eight years, it's great to have a president who knows what a library is."
Many responded to the quip with good cheer, but now GOP leaders are taking a stand.
"It was completely ungracious and undignified," said Fox News' Dana Perino, who served under Bush as his final White House press secretary. A speech-writer for Bush, Marc Thiessen, called the comment both "crass" and "rude."
McCartney has yet to respond to the jeers from the GOP.

Eldora Speedway
NASCAR driver Tony Stewart spear headed the Gillette Prelude to the Dream back in 2004 after he purchased the Eldora Speedway. The 1/2 mile dirt track will bring drivers back to their roots. It is located in Rossburg, Ohio just over 100 miles outside of Cincinnati. The first three years of the charity race raised money for one charity, but back in 2009 organizers thought it would be nice to change up recipients each year.
This year at the Eldora Speedway the Gillette Prelude to the Dream has a new twist. The drivers will be competing on one of four teams. Each team will represent one of the four hospitals that are recipients of the money. The rankings of the teams will affect how much the charitable donation will be. Like years past a champion will also be crowned, tune into tonight on pay-per-view to see all of the action.

New Mexico Game And Fish
Spanning water bodies in the Northeast, Northwest, Southwest, Southeast, the West Central and the East Central areas of the state of New Mexico, the report points out that the overall fishing conditions across the state remain satisfactory. The Department is also expected to reveal the results of the online hunting licenses shortly. The licenses will be send to those eligible, while the rejected applicants can claim their application fees.
However, the New Mexico Fishing and Game Department has warned the fishermen and anglers to remain cautious about the weather changes as they can considerably alter lake and other water body conditions. This in turn will force them to change their course of actions.

Sharron Angle, Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina Win!
In South Carolina, Nikki Haley won an overwhelming majority of the votes in a five-way race for the GOP governor slot in November. However, since she did not get 50.1% of the votes, Haley will face Gresham Barret on June 22 in a special run-off election. Supported by Sarah Palin and Tea Party groups, Haley was subjected to a smear campaign, which included rumors of adulterous affairs, which she denies.
In California, former Ebay CEO Meg Whitman easily defeated Steve Poizner for the right to face Jerry Brown in the November governor’s race. Former Hewlett-Packard CEO, Carly Fiorina beat back Tom Campbell and Chuck Devore, and will now move on to face Barbara Boxer for the U.S. Senate race in November. While many Tea Party groups supported Devore and Campbell, Fiorina had Sarah Palin in her corner.
So Tuesday Night was indeed a Ladies Night for the 2010 Elections! Blanche Lincoln survived. Nikki Haley is one step closer to her goal. Sharron Angle is poised to take on Harry Reid. Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina showed that California may be ready for successful businesswomen to help their state crawl out of the mess their in. We can even say it was a good night for Sarah Palin, too, as her endorsed candidates won.

Gary Coleman Death Photo -- For Sale
We've seen one of the photos and declined to even look at the rest. In the pic, Gary is in the hospital, his eyes are closed and he is hooked up to a ventilation machine. It is not a pleasant sight.
The person selling the photos claims to have four photos -- the one we were shown was taken about an hour before he died. The final photo was taken after he was taken off life support.
Asking price is in the low five figures.
We're guessing someone will buy it. It's just the way it is.

Mexico Anger High as US Border Patrol Kills Teen
U.S. authorities said Tuesday a Border Patrol agent was defending himself and colleagues when he fatally shot the 15-year-old as officers came under a barrage of big stones while trying to detain illegal immigrants on the U.S. side of the Rio Grande.
Preliminary reports on the incident indicated that U.S. officers on bicycle patrol "were assaulted with rocks by an unknown number of people," Border Patrol Special Operations Supervisor Ramiro Cordero said Tuesday.
"During the assault at least one agent discharged his firearm," he said. "The agent is currently on administrative leave. A thorough, multi-agency investigation is currently ongoing."
The shooting happened beneath a railroad bridge linking the two nations, and late Tuesday night a banner appeared on the bridge that said in English: "U.S. Border Patrol we worry about the violence in Mex and murders and now you. Viva Mexico!"
Less than two weeks ago, Mexican migrant Anastasio Hernandez, 32, died after a Customs and Border Protection officer shocked him with a stun gun at the San Ysidro border crossing that separates San Diego and Tijuana, Mexico. The San Diego medical examiner's office ruled that death a homicide.
Mexican President Felipe Calderon said Tuesday that his government "will use all resources available to protect the rights of Mexican migrants."

2010 MLB Draft Results
With so many good college prospects this season to pick in the 2010 MLB Draft, a number of All-American caliber players slipped in the draft, and big names such as Brandon Workman are still left on the board for today; Day two of the MLB Draft. There were a number of teams who got great value with selections yesterday.
The name talked about all over is the top overall pick, junior college powerhouse, Bryce Harper, who was chosen by the Washington Nationals yesterday. Harper is still only 17, had a dominant year at the College of Southern Nevada this past season, hitting .443 with 31 HRs and 98 RBI. Harper has hit some balls as far as 550 feet, making him a power not to be questioned.
Harper stands at 6-foot-3 and weighs 205 pounds. He has played catcher in the past but was drafted by the Nationals as an outfielder this year in the 2010 MLB Draft. The Nationals general manager, Mike Rizzo stated, "I think we made the early decision that we are going to take the difficult position of catcher away from him and really let him concentrate on the offensive part of the game and let his athleticism take over as an outfielder." Last year, the Washington Nationals chose "can't-miss fireballer" Steven Strasberg as their MLB Draft pick.
By being selected first overall in the 2010 MLB Draft, Harper becomes the highest JuCo pick ever. This has him surpassing former White Sox pitcher Alex Fernandez, who went fourth in 1990. Other 2010 first day MLB Draft picks were Jameson Taillon, second overall pick by the The Pittsburgh Pirates. Taillon is a high school student from Texas who boasts a fastball that already carries into the mid-90s.
After Taillon, Manny Machado (SS, Brito Private HS, Miami) was selected third by the Baltimore Orioles. California State, Fullerton shortstop Christian Colon went to the Kansas City Royals. Ole Miss lefthander, Drew Pomeranz rounded out the top five 2010 MLB Draft picks when he was chosen by the Cleveland Indians.
The sixth pick of the 2010 MLB Draft was Barret Loux from Texas A&M who was chosen by theArizona Diamondbacks. The New York Mets selected Matt Harvey, a right hander from North Carolina as a seventh pick. The eighth pick went to The Houston Astros as they selected high schooler Delino DeShields, Jr. DeShields' family trivia shares that Delino's father played 13 major league seasons with five teams.
Karston Whitson [RHP, Chipley(FL) HS] went ninth to the San Diego Padres, and Michael Choice finished off the top ten by going to the Oakland Athletics out of Texas-Arlington.
August 16th is the cut of date that draftees have to sign with their clubs. Signing a draftee is far from a sure thing, especially if they are younger, but Harper's agent, Scott Boras has advised Harper to attempt to sign a record deal.

World Cup
Now, I don't think the US will win the World Cup and the betting odds of the US winning of 50 to 1 are about right (in 2002 we were 200 to 1). Only 7 countries have won it after all. But while the US is not a likely contender, we should not go into this tournament with such a defeatist attitude. We can win this thing. This is the 30th anniversary of the Miracle on Ice and the similarities between the periods are striking - a deep economic recession, a nation depressed in the wake of an ill-pursued war, and an oil crisis - by that fact we are destined to win this thing!
More seriously, while saying we can win might seem far-fetched, a victory might not be as miraculous as one would think. Here are some reasons for hope:
This is a tournament, not a league season and crazy things can happen. Remember Butler got to the NCAA basketball finals this year - they were a 40 to 1 shot. George Mason got to the final four a few years back as well. Okay that's basketball, but in 2002 the Greeks won the European championships, which is overall a more competitive tournament than the World Cup. Denmark similarly won the euros in 1992. In fact, the potential unpredictability of a World Cup is enhanced because the teams are made up of players that don't regularly play together. Some teams with great players just don't work well together, are unbalanced, or never quite gel. That said some teams gel seamlessly and can get hot and go on a run. Throw in a few lucky bounces or refereeing decisions and boom you're in reach of the cup.
We have come close. ln 2002, the US dominated Germany in the quarterfinals and were a handball away from the semifinals where they would have faced a South Korea team that they had already drawn with. It would have been quite conceivable that the US could have beaten South Korea, finding themselves in the finals against Brazil - we almost assuredly would have lost, but who knows what can happen in 90 minutes. Also, just last year the US in the Confederations' Cup got to the finals, beat Spain and were 2-0 up on Brazil. The US can play with the worlds best and is capable of pulling off an upset.
It's not in Europe and it's cold. European teams tend to do badly when the tournament isn't close to them. In 2002 the big teams collapsed like flies, leading to South Korea and Turkey making the semi-finals. In 2006 the European clubs did well. Additionally, it will be fairly cold, since it is winter in South Africa. This should cause some problems for, bizarrely, African teams, as well as South American sides. In other words, when the World Cup is played outside of Europe and South America wacky things can happen.
The draw is relatively favorable. The top half of the World Cup draw - groups A, B, C, D - are weaker than the other four. The best teams in this half of the draw are Argentina, England, Germany, Serbia, France. Compare that to Brazil, Portugal, Holland, Spain, Italy. With the exception of Argentina, the US matches up fairly well against the rest. Should the US make it out of the group, it will likely play an injury-hampered Germany or Serbia. The US would be expected to lose, but both those teams play a physical European style, that the US can match up to well. Now if the US gets past that game, things get interesting. If the US were to avoid Argentina (by winning the group or Argentina falling apart under Diego Maradona) and should France collapse the US could quite reasonably face rival Mexico in the quarterfinals - a game the US might be favored to win. The path to the semi-finals could be through Serbia and Mexico. At that point the US is in the semifinals and who knows what can happen.
World football is more balanced. Yes only seven teams have won the World Cup, but much of this is due to the fact that world football for the 20th century was essentially dominated by Europe and a few South American countries. That is still the case, but talent is becoming spread more widely now and the top leagues now feature players from all over the world - Africa, Asia, and North America.
Finally, you got to believe you can. Do I think the US is going to? I wouldn't bet on it, but it is not so far fetched that one shouldn't hold out hope.
As the World Cup goes on the elite teams that remain tend to start clicking on all cylinders, which means that the US even if they are playing out of their heads are likely going to lose at some point. But just as hope springs eternal every February when pitchers and catchers report to spring training, in the week prior to the World Cup hope should be springing in the US.

Huge Seas 'Once Existed On Mars'
A geological mapping project found sedimentary deposits in a region called Hellas Planitia which suggest a large sea once stood there.
The 2,000 km-wide, 8km-deep Hellas basin is a giant impact crater - the largest such structure on Mars.
The researchers say their data support a lake between 4.5 and 3.5 billion years ago.
Some scientists believe that conditions on Mars were more favourable for the evolution of life at this time than they were on Earth.
"This mapping makes geologic interpretations consistent with previous studies, and constrains the timing of these putative lakes to the early-middle Noachian period on Mars," said Dr Leslie Bleamaster, research scientist at the Planetary Science Institute in Tucson.
The researchers say that fine-layered outcrops around the eastern rim of Hellas are likely to be sedimentary deposits.
They were formed through the erosion and transport of rock and soil from the Martian highlands into a standing body of water.
The results support earlier studies of the western part of the Hellas basin.
Further study of the region could provide clues about where this water went and to how the Martian climate changed over geological history.
The mapping effort used data from a number of instruments aboard Nasa spacecraft, including the Viking orbiter, Mars Global Surveyor and Mars Odyssey.

Pretty Little Liars
In the world of teenage girls, where the value of everything increases in direct proportion to the drama it creates, that means this show could be hot.
Not hot like, you know, Aria's English teacher, but, well, you know.
Based on a popular series of HarperTeen books by Sara Shepard, "Pretty Little Liars" follows the nervous lives of four girls in Rosewood, Pa.
It's an affluent town and these girls seem to have it all, which, of course, sets up even better drama when we start to see they also have secrets.
The event that kicks off the TV version of "PLL" is the disappearance and apparent death of the fifth girl in the circle, Alison DiLorentis.
If the "PLL" series were traditional, Alison (Sasha Pieterse) would have been the sweetest girl in school and no one could imagine anyone wanting to hurt her.
If that's what you're expecting here, grow up. Alison was a bitchy gossiper, backstabber and cruel practical joker. Hey, there's one in every crowd, right?
In any case, they were all together the night she disappeared and we join the story a year later, when free spirit Aria (Lucy Hale), bookish Spencer (Troian Bellisario), neurotic Hanna (Ashley Benson) and jock Emily (Shay Mitchell) have drifted apart.
They run into each other in random chance encounters, however, that suggest each is harboring dark secrets, some related to Alison and some not.
Since they apparently weren't into deep sharing when they were all BFFs, they aren't spilling now.
Except they have two problems. One, a local cop is determined to find out what happened to Alison. Second, the girls all start getting mysterious messages that suggest some omnipresent force knows all the secrets and could expose them.
Could the messages be coming from, gasp, Alison? Which is, like, impossible? What kind of phone network lets you keep your minutes when you're gone?
This is, like, way beyond 3G.
But it does set up high drama. As all horror and vampire fans know, the unseen and unknown can easily change tangible lives.
It's one thing to talk with your friends about lacrosse practice or the hot guy in the French class. It's something else when you're trying to figure out what happened to your disappeared friend, and just how disappeared she really is.
It's, like, so much more intense.
"Pretty Little Liars" could go in several directions, including mundane teen clichés. It's got an equally good shot at making us care about these imperfect pretty girls.
